A New Initiative
In 1993, alongside the publication of his first poetry collection, Kostas Kartelias and the writer George Cheimonas co-founded Alekton, a literary and cultural association in Athens. It reflected their belief that literature develops through dialogue and collaboration.
A Meeting Place for the Arts
Alekton brought together poetry, prose, visual arts, theatre and music. Its activities included literary evenings, presentations, exhibitions and other cultural events, creating opportunities for artists and the public to meet and exchange ideas.
More Than Twenty Years of Leadership
Kartelias served as President of Alekton for more than two decades. During those years he contributed not only as a poet, but also as an organizer, editor and advocate for contemporary Greek culture.
Looking Ahead
The experience gained through Alekton naturally led to new publishing initiatives. One of them was Atypon, a literary magazine that expanded the circle of writers, readers and artistic dialogue.
